The 5 Main Types of Coaching Calls (And When To Use Them)
Did you know there are actually five main types of group coaching calls?
Most people have one default that they use often in calls (looking at you Q&A calls!), but there are more options available to you. In this post, I walk you through the five different types of calls and when you can use them, plus some tips to make them your best call yet!
#1 The Hot Seat
This is a type of call where someone is at the centre of attention for a certain amount of time. All eyes are on them and their questions so the group can deep dive into whatever may be coming up for them at the time. It's a great choice when you want people to feel like they've gotten a lot of individual attention.
Works best when:
This type of call works best when you have a smaller group, because you can give 2-3 people a good chunk of time in the spotlight. With larger groups, especially if you only have one call a week, it can leave the people who aren't in the hotseat feeling left over or like they are waiting too long for their turn.
Make it awesome by:
Have the members who are going to be in the hotseat come prepared with what they want to dive into, so you don't have to waste any time getting to the point.
Keep the whole group engaged by regularly inviting them to share their ideas and feedback. There's always a lot of wisdom in the group to be shared!
#2 The Q&A
This is a favourite of many coaches! It's a favourite for a reason too, you're able to give your clients clarity, knowledge and guidance.
It gives space for the room to ask any questions they may have. Yes, you're there to answer and give more clarity, but this is also a great chance to have the group give their own answers from their experiences as well.
#3 The Round Table
If you like the first two, you're going to love the round table. It's essentially a hybrid of the two!
Everyone in the group gets a chance to speak, think of a fun way to start the rounds, for example, ask your group when their birthday is, the person who's birthday is closest starts, and you move on from there! This can be a fun little way to get to know your group better too.
Each person gets x amount of time, and then everyone is able to get individualized help.
#4 Content Training
This is great when you want to give little mini trainings, or a little bit of extra content to your people. The key thing here is not to overwhelm your people! You don't want to give too much content at once. The more overwhelmed people feel, the less likely they are to feel motivated and get stuff done.
This is great if you're noticing people are asking similar questions. A great time to open up little trainings so you can answer all these questions at once for your people.
Think of your intention behind it, that's the core of this. Do they need more motivation to get things done? Space to process? More information? Once you figure this out it will help figure out how to provide them with these answers effectively.
#5 The Co-Working Call
This one tends to get forgotten by people often, but this can be SUPER effective to Get Stuff Done! You're showing up, engaging with others, connecting, keeping everyone accountable. Sometimes it's just nice to know that there is someone behind their computer screen saying, hey I'm working on this, what about you? Let's do it together!
These are the five types of coaching calls you can incorporate in your business.
