Your Work Matters

A few years ago, I made a confession to my therapist. It was something I’d been feeling for a long time but had never voiced out loud.

“I am destined to do great things.”

As soon as I said it, I felt foolish.

Great things. What does that even mean? Great things. That sounds like the work of Nobel prize winners, peacekeepers, or groundbreaking artists.

I quickly wanted to minimize it, and jumped to share examples of people I know who are doing the “real work”.

It’s easy to shrink down the importance of what we do, to question if it really even matters. To say that it doesn’t count unless it’s X offer or Y niche or Z launch.

Even as I tiptoed closer to owning the impact I have through my work, of acknowledging that through diving deep with my clients, I’m helping you go wide with your message – I still had those doubts and fears creeping in.

Ok so I’ve claimed the importance of this work, but if it’s that important how can I charge for it?
Who am I to be the steward of this new movement?
Am I even capable of leading people through this transformation?
Can I be a leader, a mentor, a guide?
Who am I, how dare I, how can I…

I’ll be honest, I’m still integrating my message. At each new level of my business, I’m still working through these types of questions with my coach.

But I want to share it with you – because your work matters.

You are having an impact on people’s lives.

  • Whether you’re making their life easier through systems and new strategies

  • Whether you’re making their life more spacious through self-care and breakthroughs

  • Whether you’re making their life filled with joy through a new hobby or craft

And I know, without a shadow of a doubt, you are so. so. so. capable of guiding your people.

I know that any time we're creating something new, it's an invitation to step into a new level of leadership and expertise, and with that uplevel comes a whole host of thought gremlins telling us all the reasons why we should just stay right where we are.

So I want to leave you with one of my favourite exercises, I use it for myself all the time and in my programs for tackling those gremlins head-on.

Here’s how it works:

1)    Give the gremlins permission to speak – write down all the things they’re saying to you.

Ex. You’re not capable of guiding people through this transformation.
Who are you to call yourself a mentor?
Nobody cares about this.

2)    Take each statement and flip it into an affirmation - to remind yourself of your capability when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Ex. It’s safe for me to live in my purpose.
I’m the right person to do this work.
When I lean into my calling, I make ripples of change.

You are destined for great things, and this exercise is one of the first steps you can take to claim the incredible work you are doing in the world.

From small scale to large scale, from selling 1 course to selling 1000 – you are impacting people in more ways than you know.

If you're ready to create a vision for what's truly possible for your online program or course, I invite you to join my free video series Evolve
